Neuroscience Center at Allegheny General Hospital

Outcomes Information

In recent years, significant attention has been appropriately directed toward ensuring that optimal outcomes are achieved when it is necessary to resort to neurosurgical intervention. A high level of importance is placed on maintaining patient safety through continuous performance improvement initiatives.

AGH neurosurgery has been a leader in this area and continues to expand our efforts to ensure that we are providing the best possible care to our patients.

In recognition of our efforts in spine surgery, we have been the top hospital inoutcomes from spinal surgery with and without fusions as judged by Healthgrades.com for the past three years. While such external recognition of our efforts is important, we maintain a number of internal initiatives in order to stay at the forefront of neurosurgical practice.

The department also maintains a confidential/peer review electronic tracking and trending system for all events on the neurosurgical service that may impact patient safety. These events result in a full investigation and if appropriate, changes in techniques or processes in our system.

The department also has an extensive infection surveillance program to identify those factors that may predispose patients to infections and allow for proactive interventions to minimize hospital-acquired infections.
