AGH Neurosurgeon Chairs Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation Board

Jack E. Wilberger, MD, has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting standards for the operation of trauma centers in the Commonwealth.


Dr. Wilberger will lead the 20-member board of directors that governs the activities of the Foundation. Since it was created in 1984, the Foundation has developed a private voluntary trauma center accreditation program, evaluated Pennsylvania hospitals and issued certificates of accreditation to those hospitals which meet the standards. PTSF also conducts educational programs and promotes trauma research.
 

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Wilberger into this important position,” said Juliet Geiger, RN, MSN, Executive Director, PTSF. “He will bring to the board a wealth of knowledge that will help lead PTSF into the future and realize its vision of becoming the premier organization in Pennsylvania for assuring optimal outcomes for all trauma patients.”


Dr. Wilberger is Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Allegheny General Hospital where he also is Co-Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program.


He was appointed Vice President for Graduate Medical Education for West Penn Allegheny Health System in 2008. From 1997 to 2007, Dr. Wilberger served as Vice Dean of the AGH regional campus of Drexel University School of Medicine. In 2007, he was appointed Chair of the Council of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official for AGH. He also serves as Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, Drexel University College of Medicine.


A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Wilberger is a member of the Pittsburgh Neurosciences Society, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Allegheny County Medical Society and American Association of Neurologic Surgeons.


The PTSF was created in 1984 by the combined efforts of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania along with the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
